A BIG parade (阅兵式) was held in Beijing on Sep 3, 2015. A group of 12,000 Chinese soldiers and 500 pieces of modern military (军事的) equipment marched through Tian’ anmen Square, and nearly 200 aircraft (飞机) flew overhead in formation (队形).
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Ⅱ. The parade was part of the celebrations (庆祝) in memory of it as well as victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
During its years of war against Japan, China suffered heavy losses. The purpose of the parade was “a tribute（致敬）to history and a call for peace”, said President Xi Jinping. He also said that China would cut its 300,000 soldiers.
History shows that China was the first country to fight against fascist（法西斯的） forces. Japanese soldiers began to invade (入侵) Northeast China on Sept 18,1931.
China paid a huge price for refusing to give in. By the end of World WarⅡ in 1945, about 35 million Chinese people had been killed or wounded.
The big military parade in Beijing has further provided an important chance for the world to look back upon history and look forward to building a better world.
